Horseplay Equestrian Center is the premier English Riding Academy & boarding facility in Kona, Hawaii. Horseplay has it roots in a small coffee farm in Honaunau where Cyndy DeMeter, co-owner, began teaching children from the local elementary school in 1993 on two island-bred horses and a borrowed pony. Through the support and encouragement of friends and family the school has moved twice and expanded to now include a full board facility with 16 stalls, 2 arenas and many turnout paddocks.

Horseplay Equestrian Center has reached its final home in Honalo, Hawaii, just 8 miles south of Kailua-Kona town. It was built to further the hopes and dreams of many young girls (and boys) and to provide the community a riding school environment with a strong emphasis on cooperation, safety and responsibility.

English riding instruction is provided by Cyndy DeMeter, whose focus is dressage, and assistant instructors who offer lessons in hunters & jumpers. The facility hosts the Big Island Pony Club chapter, Therapeutic Horsemanship of Hawaii (NARHA certified), and events of the Big Island Dressage Association. Activities include dressage, jumping, quadrille, annual shows, exhibitions and visiting clinicians. Day camps are offered for 6 weeks during the summer break and sometimes during the winter & spring breaks.

Horseplay is co-owned by Dr. Pat D’Angelo (above right), equine veterinarian. Dr. D’Angelo is a 1988 graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. After 10 years of equine practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, Pat moved to the Big Island in 1998 practices island-wide.
